    Snake Closet

Im thinking about putting my BP and any new snakes I get in my closet. What would be the best way to heat the closet.

I keep my bp rack in a closet and the heat put off by the heating elements on the rack keep the closet at around 82 degs...no extra heating is needed.

My basement is fairly cool so I dont think that the heat put off by the elements could keep the ambient up. The basement is about 70F.

Ever put a computer in a very small room? If the room is small enough and somewhat insulated, it will heat up fast.

I guess it depends on how many watts of heating you put in.

    Re: Snake Closet

how big of a closet is this? if this is a small closet like 4x6 or smaller a few feet of 11inch flexwatt hooked to a stat will do. a larger closet might need an oil filled space heater, set to it's lowest setting.

I was thinking about moving my big boa cage into my closet. For some reason I have some concerns about having Flexwatt in the closet. Something about heat build up in such a small space.

nah, my bator is a closet 89 deg. heat will escape through gaps around the door and when you open and close it. if you were worried you could cut in a small vent at the top to let hot air escape also. all of this on a good stat of course! (helix) lol

Any heat source in a confined space can be potentially dangerous. However when regulated and monitored they should work great.

A closet (depending on size and location), is a great place for a rack setup. You are insulated on 3 sides, and depending on where the closet is located, it could actually be warmer and maintain its warmth easier and using less electricity.

A basement closet however, may have some issues. A small stand up heater, regulated, can warm up the space pretty quickly. But being in the basement, the heat could quickly leave the area, and it would need to be heated again.

Also if the closet has a light in it, you could possibly use a heating buld, but I would MUCH rather opt for the regulated Flexwatt, since some have had issues with the bulbs.
