Shedding -- Is this normal?
Hey there folks,
Sorry to grace you with my 'unexperienced owner' presence (lol) but I am hoping for a little input. My new ball (purchased 2 months ago) has some cracks in both of his eyes. Is this shed or humidity related? My humidity levels are on par with the research I've done, I just haven't seen them shed before, so am not sure whether these cracks are supposed to be there.
Also, I noticed the cracks about a week ago, but am not seeing any other signs of a shed happening. His eyes did not go blue or cloudy, the cracks just appeared. Any thoughts you guys have would be appreciated. I got the mammal thing figured out...reptiles are a new one for me!
Thanks again,
Linz

Could you take some pictures?
What are your humidity levels? When was the last shed? Is fresh water provided daily?
The more info the better

Re: Shedding -- Is this normal?
Hi there,
Sorry...Should have really included more information -- I hate when people ask me horse care questions and don't provide proper details.
His humidity is at 65 right now, he always has lots of water and a good sized dish to soak in (which he seems to do quite a bit).
As far as his last shed, I really don't know as I only purchased him 2 months ago -- this will be his first shed with me. Unfortunately, I bought him from a pet store (a good one) so whether or not the owner remembers or not is another question.
Thanks agai -- I look forward to your responses!

Re: Shedding -- Is this normal?
Without a picture........I can only think of it being retained eye caps that are wrinkling up.....provide the proper humidity and wait to see how the next shed goes...

There's also another condition I've observed in bp's eyes...slang name is "wrinkly eye." The eyecaps get creased due to long periods of time with low humidity. It really doesn't bother them considering that their vision sucks anyway, and will go away after a few sheds in the right conditions. Aim for 60% humidity.
