Box Turtles!!!!!! Everywhere....

I went for a walk with Pepper today...and we found three box turtles in about a 50 yard stretch of trail. Pretty cool...because I had been wanting to see some in North Louisiana for some time now....and I have never seen so many so close to one another before Here are some of the pics...others I just linked....I will have a page on my Southern Herper site setup for this "Dog walk herping trip" over the weekend with a bunch more pictures!!! ...and my new order from Midwest Tongs came in today too...I am so stoked....

great pics. what did you get from Midwest? i got a snakehook from them... very good quality i think.

I have been having their standard snakehook for sometime now....you won't be disappointed.

I picked up a Pro Field Hook and some Gentle Giant Tongs.....the field hook is great....the tongs seem a little heavy but I need some exercise

I needed something a little longer so I don't have to bend over to lift stuff (the field hook) and I wanted something so I can handle aggressive or venomous snakes a little better(tongs)....i really dont want to get tagged by a Timber Rattler

i was handling western rattlers up at our property with my standard snake hook this weekend. i had moment of stupidity and picked up a baby behind the head. after about a minute of checking him out he decided he didnt like me and reached back and got me on the tip of my middle finger. gosh..... stupid me! NEVER PICK UP A RATTLER! i was stoked that i saw 3 rattlers in one weekend though. it's kinda disappointing to hear everybody up there just kills them at first site.

Great box turtles, Eastern box turtles are one of the few herps you can find on Long Island. I find them in a usually wet forest 300 from a girl scout camp, and on the other side, 300 feet from a cliff down to the bay. It is amazing how they live. I also find boxturtles together, where you see one there is another, almost like deer. In link #8 is that an eastern on the right, or just a younger one? What variety are the majority of those pictures? I have 5 little baby easterns that I saw laid and hatch right on the edge of my grandpa's driveway.. it was amazing.

Awesome!! We used to see tons of turtles in S. FL. All over the place! One time my fiance saw one get hit by a car but the car just spun him around. She pulled over and put him in her back seat (this dude was HUGE) and relocated him to the lake outside our apartment.
