    quarantine

Okay, So as you all probably know by now, I "rescued" an adult male BP from a pet shop that was just dropped off. The pet store has offered to take him to the vet for me, which would be monday. After the vet visit and everything checks out, is it okay to have him in the same room as everyone else? If everything's okay, than I don't see why not....but maybe I am missing something.

Oh yeah, and HAPPY EASTER !

    thanks guys,
    Ginger

    Re: quarantine

I wouldn't. You should quarantine any new snake for at least 3 months. Its just not worth it to take a chance with the health of your others.

    Re: quarantine

Yup, I'm in agreement with Jamie. There some things that just might not show up immediately, and it's better to wait. I do the three month quarantine too. If I take in anymore, they'll be as separate as I can make them. Try not to allow anything that the new male touches be anywhere near your established group.

    Re: quarantine

How far apart do the snakes have to be apart for the quarantine to be effective?

I keep my reptiles in a separated office/herp building

My mom will NO way let me keep the 2 snakes im getting stay in the house.
Would it be OK to move the male I have now in the house, and keep the 2 new balls out w/ the other reptiles during quarantine? What other reptiles could possible diseases be spread to from a ball python? Could they be near my corn?

    Re: quarantine

At the very least in a separate room and fed with different tongs and strict cleaning procedures followed before touching your other snakes.

    Like what?

I swear I'm not trying to bust anyone's balls. I'm just curious what problems arise, even after a clean bill of health from the doct.
    Kay, thanks guys... mucho love

    Re: quarantine

How about the worst case scenario, IBD. There is also Cryptosporidia. Both could take out your collection in a heartbeat and both may not show up right away. There are certain things a vet can't test for and certain tests that throw false negatives.

    Re: quarantine

IBD is Inclusion Body Disease. It is only found in Boids and mostly in Boas. Boas can live a long time with it but it is always fatal in Pythons. http://www.anapsid.org/ibd.html

Cryptosporidia (or Cryptosporidium) is a parasite. There is no cure for it at this time.

    Re: quarantine

Reading about IBD made me think , it must be very painfull for our little buddie's. Has anyone on this forum ever had one of there boid's go through this? Another ? would three months be enough time to see the onset of symptom's?
