    Re: 10 gallon tank need advice . . .

I sure hope you're not keeping male rats in a tank. That will cause alot of severe respiratory problems, especially if you are using pine in conjunction with the amount of urine male rats produce. It can cause alot of problems with ammonia build-up. A normal wire cage will provide them with the much needed space and the aeration they need to thrive, not just survive.

    Re: 10 gallon tank need advice . . .

Yup I have 2 males in a 20 gallon with a female rat that I am trying to get prego. I will switch them to a wire cage when i move. So even if I have a fan blowing on top of the cage and clean it every 7 days they can not be in a cage?

    Re: 10 gallon tank need advice . . .

I really like my lab style cages. They are not so tall as the tanks, so I think the air doesn't just sink and sit in there as much even though the sides aren't wire. They're super easy to clean and the lids lock nicely too. The food hopper on top is nice to keep food always available too.

I don't have any issues with RIs with my rats.. gotta clean often though! Once a week at least.

Fans blowing and drafts are not good and will cause respiratory distress and possible allergies. A proper(look at www.martinscages.com for appropriate caging) wire cage will allow adequate ventilation without being too drafty.

To produce enough rats for 2 snakes you would only need 2 females, maybe 3, to keep producing the right size babies. You just have to breed them at different intervals(Month apart).
