burm or retic?
i finally have the means of keeping and maintaining a burm or retic. now... which one to pick... i really love the colors of a normal burm and i heard that retics are a little harder to take care of. i definitley want a male cause they will grow smaller than a female. any suggestions? shelby you have the granite right? how is it taking care of it?

Re: burm or retic?
Definitely go for a burm over a retic as a first giant. Burms have SUPER AWESOME temperaments on average, while retics can sometimes be nasty. A male burm will grow to 10-15' long and up to 100lbs or so.
A burm will never refuse a meal on you (unless you're doing something wrong) and are really great snakes. An adult male will need a nice 8' cage or a 10' as an adult.

Don't retics get longer? Austin Stevens Snake Master had a "man-eating snake" episode and he said that retics can get up to 33 feet or so. He also said that they are he longest snakes in the world.

Yes retics are normally the longest snake species. They don't tend to be as heavy bodied though.. but that's just relative!

Re: burm or retic?
what would you keep a 30 foot snake in any ways? im asking as like what do adult retics need because with that size it seems like they would need their own room.

I don't really know. I'd imagine a 15-20' cage.. or it's own room. lol

Re: burm or retic?
yeah i knew that retics will be harder to take care of. but man the retics are nice... i still have to decide on which to get. a burm sounds really good. if i do get one, its gonna be a male so they wont grow too large. im gonna be building a 6 ft cage and an 8 ft cage soon so the giant will do good in the 8 ft for a while.

Re: burm or retic?
Baby burms are nervous.. start them in a secure small tub... around 10 gallon tank size.
