    Without any predators, certain species can also reach fairly high population densities. Even if they don't care to snack on snake they will step on snake, and ball pythons don't strike me as the types to enjoy tickles while they're trying to sleep. And sleeping out in the open COULD be a way of avoiding the creepy crawlies.
