100% het albino and a normal breeding

I would really like to produce some albinos for 2007. I have a normal male that would be ready to breed. If I got a 100% het albino female and bred it to my normal male, what babies would I get? I would get half %50 hets, and half visible albinos right? I would get the same result if I bred a normal female to a male 100% het albino right? Please I need your help.

Re: 100% het albino and a normal breeding

That's not correct. If you bred a 100% Het Albino x Normal, the resulting clutch would yield ALL 50% poss hets for albino. In other words, you don't really know whether each one if a 100% het for sure until you prove them out. Basically, if you are looking to get an albino in 2007, you'll need a male that is 100% het for albino and a female that is 100% het for albino- and even then, its still a big roll of the dice. The only sure way to make an albino in the first clutch is to cross two visible albinos.

I second the info above my post.Even if you buy a pair of 100% het albino pair it would be a couple years before they are able to breed.

Re: 100% het albino and a normal breeding

What you could do is breed a 100% albino, to a 100% het, and get 50% het albinos, and 50% albinos theoretically speaking, or on the long run breed a 100% albino to a normal bp, then youd get 100% hets, then breed those to the 100% albino parent. Thats the only way youd be sure of what youre getting.
Or you could take your chances, breed 100% het x 100% het, so you would have 25% albino, 50% hets, and 25% normal, that is as elevatethis said a big roll of the dice, but its much less money spent, you could get a pair of hets for less than $1000, and a visible albino would cost you bout $2000, so it really depends on how much are you willing to spend.

Re: 100% het albino and a normal breeding

Thanks that realy clears things up. I can get a pair of hets from topshelf exotics for 600 right now delivered. If I ordered those this year could I breed them for 2008? And now that I think more about it, before spending all that money on hets I should successfully breed some normals first. So 2008 it is. Thanks again

Re: 100% het albino and a normal breeding

You might be able to breed them in 2008. It all depends on the female being up to size...it generally takes 2-3 years for a female to reach breeding size. Then you just have to hit the odds.

I would buy a het female this year and a het male next...although when you buy pairs you are basically getting the male for free. Females take so long to raise...so they determine when you will be breeding.

I would by the hets now...and start growing up the female.

OK. I really gotta get another job. (I just got done selling christmas trees) and a job is harder have when you are 14. Im gonna get that het female ASAP. At the very latest july. I'm thinking more like marchish. Have any of you ever ordered from www.topshelfexotics.com ? They look reputable and are all over kingsnake, but I want a real opinion. This is great info

Actually, if you bred a visable albino to a 100% het, then you'd get half 100% hets and half albinos. There wouldn't be any 50%'ers. Same with breeding Albino to normal, you'd get 100% hets.

He said that half will be hets, and half will be visibles. He is right
