    Halogen bulbs and RHP

How many halogen lamps would I need for a 6’x30”x2’?

I’m planning out the setups for future bioactive enclosures and was wondering about the heating.

I’m planning to get a 190 watt RHP from Pro Products for the basking area.
How many 100 watt halogen bulbs would I need to supplement ambient heat? I was planning to install 2 in each enclosure but I’m not sure if this would be overkill.

Enclosures are 6’x30”x2’ for a BCI and a ball python (separate of course).
    Ambient will be 80-85°F
    Basking will be 90-95°F

    Thank you!

I would see how the RHP does before I added additional heat. That a big enclosure, but that also a big RHP, so you may not need additional heating. If you do need additional heating, I don't know that I would go with halogens. That's a lot of light for nocturnal animals. I'd consider a CHE or UTH.

Ooh that’s an excellent point. I would have all the lights on a dimmer to adjust as needed but yes, I think I’ll see how just the RHP does at first. Thank you so much!

You may want to check the type of halogen fixture you want is compatible with dimmers, they aren't always. Full blast, that's probably really uncomfortable light for a BP.

Very true. Plus I might cook my plants. I’ll definitely go with something else if I need to supplement the RHP at all. Thank you so much for the advice!

I have that same RHP in an 8'x32"x24" enclosure and it's more than enough by itself. I'd also aim to keep your temps lower than you mentioned for both species. 77-80 and 87-90.

You guys just saved my plants, snakes, and wallet.
    Thank you so much!

Is Pro Products still taking orders through phone? The last time I purchased anything from them was pre pandemic and I hear customer service can be a little iffy now.

I just completed an order with Pro Products last week, though I did it online because I like to give Bob the details he asks for about my setup so that he can recommend size and wattage. I also did an order with him in the middle of the pandemic and while the order was a bit slow, his communication was excellent. His supply chain was compromised by the conflict in Ukraine, as Russia is a main supplier of aluminum. He sent emails explaining the delays and apologizing. This most recent order was completed very quickly.

Bob is the best! I had a great experience purchasing from him in 2019. I hope he has an apprentice or someone who can follow in his footsteps when he retires. Thank you so much for the insight!
