Herpstat - 4 tanks - 1 thermostat (4) or 2 duals?
I have 4 Animal Plastic APS T10 coming - one should be here soon and the next three should be here in the next few months for my BO’s.
Spider robotics is out of their new Spyder Web “4” thermostat that has the four ports on it… It won’t be back in stock until the end of May it runs $410.
But they have the 2 port wifi SpyderWeb “2” so I could buy two of those instead of the 4 port unit…it’s $70 more ($35 each more) but it’s also in stock.
I was also thinking that if the unit ever failed, even if it was under warranty, I would have enclosures without a thermostat which would not be a great idea whereas if I had two of them and one failed, I could still alternate the one thermostat back-and-forth between the two enclosures or something to that effect until the replacement arrived.
Any thoughts?
TIA

What's a BO? Is that a typo? I thought you kept BPs.
6 weeks doesn't seem that long to wait for the Spyder Web 4. I think I would just wait. You're twice as likely to have a failure with two thermostats as you are with one.

Personally, I'd wait for the one I wanted especially if I were waiting on enclosures anyway. If it is more complicated to access 2 units remotely (I don't use the web versions) that's a factor in favor of getting the 4 channel unit. I agree with the 'more units, more chance of failure' reasoning too.
Most people don't keep backups of everyday things that fail/break/get lost more often than Herpstats (refrigerators, phones), and in a serious pinch a person could put four heat sources on dimmers that are in stock all the time at a local big box store, or even heat the room to 78F and don't feed. I have five Herpstats, the oldest one is seven years old, and I've had one or two probes get glitchy but still operational (the old style, now upgraded) and one that had a faulty screen go out a few weeks in (again, the unit still held temps), but no failures.
