Buried Alive!
so i walked into the snake room this morning before work and found my mainland male burm had buried himself in the substrate all the way up to his head? not sure what this is about so thought i would ask lol got pix if needed - just seems most peculiar
terrarium parameters on point for the species, brand new substrate (which apparently he loves ig), drinking and soaking bowl filled with fresh spring water, etc - everything tip top so idk

I have no experience with burms but it sounds like he enjoys feeling the "sense of security"- ie. "If it feels good, do it."

thought this might’ve been the case but wanted to throw it out there on the off chance it was some weird survival thing lol i also forgot to mention that his enclosure is below my females enclosure but not completely underneath moreso down and in front of her enclosure and they have interacted with each other a little before this so i was also curious if this might’ve been some dominance thing where she had intimidated the little fella

Glad you shared- many snakes love to do this, whether for a "sense of security" or as an ambush-the-prey technique- I think it's both, actually. And always adorable.

its super adorbs! i just hadn’t had anyone else in my crew do this so i had no idea what to make of it at first lol in thinking about natural analogs i was thinking maybe it was similar to burying yourself in leaves or jungle floor debris and so on
