Baby Ball Python spents most time in cool hide

My baby Python spends 90% of his time in his cool hide. He is only in his warm hide after feeding and for a short time then he moves back to the cool side. When I held him last he was really cold to the touch. I don't think my temperatures are inaccurate.
cool side ambient 79/80
warm side ambient 86
warm side hot spot 89
I tried lowering the warm side a degree or so but didnt do anything.
I can't force him to go to the warm side but he seems so cold.
What should I do?

I think again, and I mean no offense, you've just got new keeper nerves. My guy spends the bulk of his time in his cool hide or the one in the middle of his enclosure. Typically I only see him in the warm hide after a meal and even then only for a couple of days. Your snake knows what he needs and your tempratures seem fine especially if you're using a good quality temp gun and digital thermometers, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

As far as him feeling cold to you, remember that our normal body tempratures are 98.6 degrees, so anything cooler than that is going to feel cold to us. It doesn't mean his temperature isn't where it should be, just that he's cooler than you. (no pun intended )

Yes I guess I do. Since I have never ownd a reptile before I wanna make extra sure he is safe and sound.
And when I got to hold him at the breeders facility he was very warm out of the box so I thought I am doing something wrong here.
