Do hides need to be identical?
Most people mention having identical hides in a tub set up, I’m wondering if this is absolutely necessary. I get that they should be equally comfortable on both sides, but it seems like my girl likes both her hides even though they are different. If she’s using them both, is them not being identical really a problem?

I try to keep them the same size. But some of the older Balls have one plastic an one ceramic. Back when cave hides made the tank look better. Snakes don't care about looks. Now, I buy hides by the dozen.
Good luck!

If they are using both, it doesn't really matter. The important thing is that they are not choosing the illusion of safety over proper thermoregulation. I recommend identical hides to new people, especially when they are having feeding issues, because it removes a potential problem from the equation.

I have tried using a zilla hide on the cool side of my tub, and she did not go over there or in it, she stayed in the warm side for 3 days, so i took out the zillz rock hide, and put back the other one, thats pretty much the same, and within a few hours i found her back in the cool side, as a new owner to baby ball, made me fill great... i'll try again later on, wen she gets bigger..
