Surface temps too high???
So I have a couple places on the hot side where surface temps reach between 93F and 96F. Ambient air temps 1" from substrate read 84.2F on hot side.
Is this ok?

88 to 96 degrees Fahrenheit on hot spot.
Ambient temperature of 78 to 80 degrees, never below 75.

Re: Surface temps too high???
I think your temps are a tad high. I keep a hot spot of 86-90 for my pythons and boas. My cool side ranges from 70-80 depending on the season. I’ve never understood the never let their temps drop below 75 mantra. My temps have dropped to as low as 66-68 on some winter nights and my critters are all just fine. As long as they have access to a warm spot they can withstand colder ambient temps.

The reason for the it is being at a higher risk for an RI.

Thankfully none of my snakes have ever had any RIs but I do agree that prolonged exposure to colder temps can increase those risks.
