I used to have arachnophobia pretty bad myself. I would freak out at just the smallest spiders in my backyard. But... as I learned more about them, the curiousity grew and the fear faded. I have no problem picking up regular spiders now... but still working on actually handling my 4 tarantulas.

I know that when you give little bowls of water to mice, they fill them with bedding- they won't say, but it's assumed they consider them to be a drowning hazard for their babies. It doesn't occur to them that might be their only drinking water, lol.
