Re: Bites
Even my big snake bites (8' burm and 7' dumerils) didn't hurt much. A little sore after the fact, but the actual bite isn't bad at all. The burm even held on for a couple of minutes.. your average snake bite is a quick tag and release.

Re: Bites
I recently got my first bite. My little pied female tagged me. She is just so precious! Anyway... enough cooing back to business. It stung a teeny amount, and bled just a smigin. Not bad at all, more startled me than hurt honestly, but then she is a baby, so maybe it hurts a bit more if they are bigger? I did get NAILED by a very large retic once, and it HURT, but he hung on and really tore in badly. He was 16 feet long and it was a food mistaken identity thing, totally the owner's fault. I scolded them roundly for it too. That bled a lot, and was rather spectacular to look at right then, but healed up with no problem.
hope my tiny experiances help. It is totally worth the occasional teeny nip to have such wonderful creatures.

Re: Bites
I have been bit a few times. The little ones--you can't even tell they bit you unless you're looking at them, but the big ones--leave a mark, but it generally itches more than hurts.

Re: Bites
The only snake that's ever bitten me was our biggest female ball python, Brannagh, whose around 1,800 to 1,900 grams or so (have to weigh that girl again soon LOL). Since we know she's got a tendency to be aggressive in her tub I was wearing gloves to move her back and forth to our temporary tub while cleaning her enclosure. Went to get her out and hesitated in my grab, totally my own stupidity...when you have to grab an aggressive snake you have just got to commit to it LOL. She tagged me slightly through the gloves...no biggie at all...I've had worse paper cuts. She just hit and released so fast really my eye couldn't follow it.
None of our other snakes has ever bitten though have done the occasional defensive jab, more of a "hiss off and leave me alone" thing without any contact.
My kids have bitten me worse and more often!

Re: Bites
I cannot answer that question as far as my ball pythons go- they have never bitten me, nor even a strike out at all. But I have been bit by king snakes, yrs ago when I kept them, they did not hurt at all, only itched when it was healing. I have also been nit by a few of my lizards, thier bite is not too bad either.

Re: Bites
I got bite on the knuckle when I went to buy my first and current snake. I was handling one, and the ladie that worked there took out the other for me to hold and it bit me right away. It didnt hurt at all, just bled a little. The snake was probly about 28-30.
