Re: Anything is a hide
Cat litter pans are fantastic hides! I also use Thai takeout containers, cardboard paper towel/TP tubs for small critters, and all the way up to concrete mixing tubs for bigger snakes. All work quite well and for a mere fraction of the cost of hides marketed for reptiles. That said, I do have a bunch of RBI hides as they’re strong, easy to clean, stackable when not in use, etc.

I agree heartily. I have a number of hard plastic type hides from many years of keeping- they never wear out. My faves have been off the market for years- they're tan or gray with stone texture but easy to clean. Anyway, those are mostly for medium size snakes, & I have all sizes too, so I'm a big fan of converting cardboard boxes (for disposable hides) as well as the other things too- plastic gallon jugs that once held white vinegar can be turned into humid hides with the top end snipped off. Sometimes you can find terra cotta pottery that works well too, either as hides or "climbing toys" (ie. strawberry pots). Even some curved PVC drain pipes, partly buried. Our snakes appreciate the cage enhancements, it's very obvious. I've always been fond of wandering thru big home improvement stores for things to be used "off-label".

Plastic Easter buckets and Halloween candy bowls also make cheap but effective hides.
