Housing HELP!!!
I am wanting a bci boa as a pet. I have a stand alone tub and it is having all sorts of temp issues. I have an uth set at 99 with thermostat reading to cold with temp gun it’s 89?? Also my cold end is 68? Like wth lol. I am trying to set up weeks before I get my guy. I also have a 20 gal tank that I could use and a Che on the way. Of course this would be temporary caging until it’s a bit bigger. I know if I do the tank I’ll have to cover the top and sides some for humidity. Any tips?

What size tub? Is the bottom flat or does it have small ridges/grooves to make the tubs stable when stacked?
Is the UTH under the tub with the thermostat probe sandwiched between them?
What is the ambient air temp in the room? If you use the temperature gun on objects in the room, what is the reading?

Re: Housing HELP!!!
The tub does have a sort of indent on the bottom. Ambient temp is 68 to 70 in the room. It’s my bedroom and is a converted garage so stays on the cool side. I do have the thermostat probe sandwiched between the tub and Matt. I’m thinking the tank may work better for my situation with modifications of course bc heating the room isn’t an option. I can’t sleep in a hot room.

Awesome thank you so much. That is brilliant. I’m using on again off again style thermostats too but as soon as the boa gets bigger I will be upgrading to a pvc with rhp

I love JMCs QT tub setup. If your room stays on the colder side I’d go with the tank setup too. The UTH/CHE combo should work perfectly for your basking and ambient temps. Humidity isn’t a huge deal and it’s easy to provide with the right substrate. PVC & RHP will work best down the road. Best wishes with the new boa.

With a low ambient temp in the room you can use two UTH's. Set the first one so the tub floor is 90*F, and a second larger one set to 78-80*F (it can cover much of the rest of the tub floor). If the ambient is still too low in the tub try covering it with a towel or baby blanket.

You might consider a boa from Mexico or Central America as they don't mind a cooler than average cool side. -Just a thought...
Good on you for figuring this out before hand...if you stick with it and get it right your job will be much easier later.
