A little help deciding what to do please!
Hello everyone. I have a decision to make. I have a het clown/het albino female who is about 1600 grams and growing follicles. I have a het clown male who is a little over 400 and producing sperm plugs. I also have a clown male who is 100 grams and a pastel clown male who is at 100 grams. Do I try to breed my het clown male to my female or just wait for next year with her?

If you decide to mate early don't be surprised if your egg viability is low.
This is a clutch from a 300 gram male:
All slugs...

“Sperm plugs” aren’t actually sperm at all, but are actually hemipenal castings/shed.
Provided he’s mature enough to lock up with her - You could possibly try breeding the male at that size, but it is a little riskier since they don’t have the same fat stores as a bigger male would have. If he’s eating well, and continues to eat, then you should be okay with pairing him.
But if he goes off of food at all, I would monitor his weight VERY closely and honestly if it were me I would pull him from breeding entirely until he starts eating again. You don’t want to breed him to death!

I bred one of my males at 500 grams, he stayed on food and did just fine. His clutch also came out with 8 healthy eggs (though they didn’t all make it through incubation, I have a thread open on that) but yeah you may run into some fertility issues from a younger male.
You could also wait a little longer and let him pack on a bit more weight, but then your female may start absorbing her follicles if she doesn’t have a male in with her soon enough.
It’s really your call though, so do whatever you’re comfortable with!

That’s the problem! I have no clown or het clown ready... so do I take a chance and put something else with her and make 50% hets?
