Carpet Python Identification?

Hey Guys,

Picked this guy up and I'm not sure what type of carpet python exactly he is. I don't think the breeder I got him from was too sure either. He's about two years old and about 4 feet long. So, coastal, jungle, other?

Without lineage on the animal there is no way of knowing. Could be coastal, jungle, Papuan, Darwin, or any combination of all of the above.

I agree with above. My first guess is there's Jungle in there, but without lineage there's no way of really knowing for sure, at least that I'm aware of.

I've been in the hobby a long time, but I'm still basically brand new to morellia. Beautiful animal any which way

You can ask the same question to Nick Mutton and he'll say the same thing.

Boa Constrictor locality animals are not uncommon here in the US. Carpet locality animals are very much a rarity here by comparison.

You likely have a mix and that's OK.

I have a coastal, mutt myself and have asked the same question. Nick Mutton emailed me back after looking at the photos I sent him way back when and told me there was no way to tell.

I love my mixy-mutt and am plenty happy with her. She was a very inexpensive pickup from an expo.

Well I guess my main curiosity is how big he'll grow. If he's 4ft in 2 years, is it likely that he's go some room to grow still? (A few feet, one foot, inches...)? Or could he be full grown or half size and we couldn't say either?

Kinda depends on a lot of factors. What subspecies(s) the animal is, sex, feeding size and frequency, how well that individual animal converts caloric intake to growth, etc.

With a careful and intentional feeding regimen you could probably keep the snake around that size or slight larger, or you could possibly grow it to ~7’.

You obtained the python from a breeder. Did that breeder actually breed 2 animals to create that snake? Or did the breeder get the animal from somebody else?

If the breeder has the parents, you will have a good idea the size your animal will reach.

Carpets generally get 6'-9'. 9' being the above average end and 6' being a decent sized smaller animal.

You can get 11' coastals and you can get 5' Darwins.
