    are they that hard

Hello im wanting to know are bloods really that hard to take care of? Also i heard it's really hard to hold them do to the size they get? Also im thinking either buying a Blood or JCP at the Show this keepend? I need to choose which one fast lol. I actually really like the looks of the bloods much better. What do you suggest any help here please, also how do i pick out a blood at a show and what am i going to be looking at for a blood at a show? Thanks Aaron

    Re: are they that hard

Why don't you do your homework & thoroughly research both species before making a decision? It's not as though an upcoming show is your only opportunity to get a carpet or a blood, and there's a lot of good husbandry information on both animals if you are willing to look for it.

Remember this - folks who cram for tests usually fail them, and bloods & carpets can be somewhat unforgiving of husbandry errors if you don't know what you're getting into.

Since snakes are a long term committment I'd also encourage you to do lots of research and then perhaps just go look at the show, talk to the breeders there and you can alway purchase later through another show or through shipping.

Kind of one of those....choose in haste, repent in leisure sorta things.

If you want a blood.. wait and get one from KLG! She has the nicest ones around, and you'll be sure to get a healthy baby.

I don't find them to be difficult.. but you do have to make an effort to keep the temps/humidity etc correct.

You can certainly hold an adult blood, but you must support them.. you can't just sling a 6' 30lb blood around your shoulders and not expect to strain it's body.

Gee really Shelby???? That's exactly what the chick that once owned Rauri the BCI did with him....slung him over her shoulder, then drove around in her car with him...with the car windows open mind you!

He's grown a bit since he came to us but if memory serves he was about 5.5 feet at the time.

    Re: are they that hard

Jo - a BCI's body is built differently from a blood.. bloods are much more strictly terrestrial, so you can hold a big BCI on your shoulders without hurting it.

I still wouldn't recommend driving a car with one! What if the boa decides HE wants to drive for awhile? We boa owners know they just love to grab and pull on things with those necks/tails!
