    Unhealthy Blood

I posted a thread last week about my new blood I recieved from Ray Torres at Ray's Reptilia. I will never deal with him again and would suggest anyone else stear clear of him. Anyway I have left the blood in her incloser to let her get aclimated to her new enviroment, short of taking her out to feed last saturday (and she just ignored the little mouse). Today I took her out to look her over and she felt very rough on her underbelly, this may be normal for a blood i dono. Anyway the scary thing is that she made a crackling noise when she breathed, I look at her mouth and she has saliva bubbles at the tip of her mouth. She does not move alot and hardly ever gets in her hide. Obviously she in not healthy and I will be taking her to the vet asap. Does anyone have a good idea what this might be? If so is it something that can be treated? Thanks for your responses.

Sounds like a Respiratory infection, to me. At least those are some of the symptoms, according to what I have read. A vet appointment will be necessary to treat it. Perhaps some of the more experienced owners can tell you if there is anything you can do until you can get your snake to the vet.

Good luck, and I am sorry for your bad experience. It's too bad that people like that are able to operate.

Vet is a must. I've heard so many things that I don't believe a one of them, but going to the vet. I have heard of putting them in a small bathroom and running the shower on hot to steam the infection out, which could be true; to dropping the humidity really low so as to "dry" the infection up, which is probably not true. All you will do is stress him/her out even more.

Definitely a RI.. and rough belly is NOT normal for a blood.

Until you get to the vet, up the temps to 85 warm 95 cool.. heat gives them more strength to fight it off, and keep the temps on the higher end of the range while you give antibiotics.

Also.. when feeding, it's really easier on the snake to feed in the cage. And, no, she won't try to bite you every time you open the cage either.. well, she may anyway because she's a blood.

    Re: Unhealthy Blood

I better not do anything that requires too much brainpower or precision tonight. I think I'll leave the mean snakes in their tubs tonight.

I smell a snake poop though, hope a nice snake left it. :/
