I'll get better stuff then.
If you asked a guy working in the pet department or pet store, they often don't know, or are told to push certain products their store makes money on. I've personally
never cared for aspen, even though pretty safe for many snakes, & sadly the products that hold humidity are easier to grow mold, esp. in such warm enclosures...it just
goes with the territory. It's not that you cannot use aspen for a BP, but if you have trouble with humidity...? Also, it might be OK as long as you have a humid hide &
larger water bowl, with restricted air-flow. Just a thought... Everything has a down-side.

I actually bought the bag from a stand at a reptile expo (I avoid buying from petstores as much as possible), but your point still stands
I just ordered a large bag of reptichip coco substrate and one of those hides. He's due for a tank cleaning anyway, so I'll do that when it comes in.

Remember, there's more than one way to do things, & even "nature" isn't perfect all the time regarding humidity & temperatures.
