Gotta pay the "middle-man". Brick & mortar stores cost a lot to run (utilities, rent, employees, insurance)...so even though an expo charges a fee for a table to sell
from, it can't be anywhere near what a store costs to operate. And you don't have nicely set-up cages like that without more employees than most pet stores have either.
But seeing as they're doing right by the animals (apparently) it's also reason to support them if you can.

Their feeder prices are really pricey too. Especially with the new store opened up in Richardson selling them for close to half their prices. No real quality difference to justify the price either.
Makes for a wonderful browsing and dry goods store, though. Nice pictures!

Yeah, I do support them with dry goods buys when I need things, but they've had periodic issues with mites and primarily use predator mites instead of chemicals, so I'm too paranoid to buy animals from them. They also run boarding so there's just too many vectors for parasites and diseases for my tastes, unlike dog boarding I don't think they require any sort of testing to confirm lack of illnesses beforehand.
They definitely have pretty nice displays, but they do cohab most colubrid, boa, and ball pythons which would be absolutely awesome to see.

It's called the Serpentarium, right along 75. They have a different sort of variety there, some less common things. It's a branch of a CA company as far as I can tell and they breed their own feeders which is part of the lower cost I suspect. They also strictly sell captive bred animals, which is nice.
They have things like tegus, tortoises, and a few kinds of monitors which I've never or very rarely seen at the reptarium. But also your usual snakes and other critters. They've got some really nice live plants too.
Both stores are worth checking out for sure.
