Enclosure questions for BCL and Bearded Dragon
Hi,
I currently have a Bearded Dragon going on 1 year old and in 2 weeks will be getting my Peruvian Long Tail Boa. My beardie is currently in a 40 gallon glass tank. I am ooking 2 build them each a 4' x 2' enclosure. I plan to use 1/2" PVC expanded foam board from Home Depot.
I'll break my questions down by animal. Also, as a point of reference I live in Florida and the house temperature is between 72-74 in the evening and probably 76-78 during the day.
Boa Enclosure
1. Any reason to use something other than the PVC board?
2. How tall should I make the enclosure? Should I just go a full 24" or more like 20"
3. Will a radiant heat panel be sufficient or should I also use a UTH?
Bearded Dragon Enclosure
1. Really just wondering about proper height of the enclosure.
Thanks in advance for an suggestions.

I can't speak for the beardie but I'll comment on the boa....
1) pvc is a fantastic choice.
2) I think a BCL would enjoy the extra height.
3) a RHP will be enough.

Enclosure questions for BCL and Bearded Dragon
Personally, I would go at least 2 feet for the beardie to be able to include lots of things to climb

Re: Enclosure questions for BCL and Bearded Dragon
The bearded dragon will need a little extra height to accommodate the basking light and a raised basking area helps to bring it closer to the light so you need a less power hungry bulb and it adds less overall heat to the entire cage. 4x2x2 is very common for these cages. As a side I used some stones to make a ramp so our beardie trims his claws all in his own every time he basks. Been 5 year and never needed to trim them.

Re: Enclosure questions for BCL and Bearded Dragon
Thanks everyone. I am going to go with the 4'X2'X2' for both Beardie and the boa. Should be fun to build.
Gunkle - cool ramp. My beardie is currently in a 40 gallon glass tank and I have ceramic tile as the substrate and it doesn't seem to do squat for keeping his nails filed.

Ceramic is to smooth to be effective this was some rougher stone tiles scrap I found. Works great

Re: Enclosure questions for BCL and Bearded Dragon
I have heard the PVC from Home Depot will bend because of the way it is constructed. I can’t remember the specific term, but it’s made differently than the PVC that is used for cages by the professional companies.
