    i never liked using newspaper for any of my animals. the ink always gives me the heebie jeebies. my BPs do very well on coco husk.

    I feel the same way: though sources say it's now soy ink & therefore safe, the problem is that most soy is GMO & heavily sprayed with pesticide, which I don't think
    is a concern for making ink, but it is if you're exposing your pets to it. I therefore pass on using newspaper in pet cages of any kind. I don't like the way it smells
    either, & snakes have a far more sensitive sense of smell, plus their bodies are much smaller so chemicals may have a greater effect.

    Just FYI about newsprint, the only bad ink decades ago was really the red ink which isn't used any longer. I remember when I started I would only use the black and white just in case, but in reality it is all safe to use.
    When I use newsprint now, I use unprinted sheets (also called dunnage).
