‘Rescue’ Retic scars.
Hey guys, so I just got back from a reptile expo, and of course I brought home a new snake. Id been looking for my first retic for a while, and really wanted to get something along the lines of a lucy or piebald. However, going from stand to stand, I came across this guy with some pretty horribly unhealthy animals. Stuck sheds, dehydration lines, rodent scars. He had what seemed like a retic in a half see through box,, and I asked to take a look at it. As expected, he/she wasnt in the best condition to say the least. Looks fed, but full of scars. Is there a way I can treat these? There is one open, how do I stop it from infecting? Will they ever fully heal? She’s about 5 feet now. Thanks a lot in advance for your advice.

If the small scratch is not too deep , it is best to clean the wound with antibacterial soap and water. And keep a eye on it . If it is deeper antibiotic ointment or povidone iodine ointment. You can get the soap from a pharmacist or if you go vets without your retic and explain your situation they will give you either of other two you may be able to also order them online I am not sure but these above are options I have used in past but feel free to search Google there may be other options I have not mentioned

Agree with above post (Betadine/aka povidone iodine) to treat any open wounds, but scars that are healed over just leave alone (& you will likely always see them).
Not sure I'd have give such a person ANY of my business, no matter how sympathetic for his animals, but since you did: have you also checked well for mites? And
if this is not your only snake, keep this one well-quarantined for sure...the scars & wound may be the LEAST of your problem with this one. Good luck!

Re: ‘Rescue’ Retic scars.
Thanks a lot. Betadine it is. And no mites, almost 99 percent sure. Did a proper visual inspection in good lighting but even if they do pop up, ive dealth with them twice before back when I bred balls. Callington mite spray, not sure if youd have it in your neck of the woods but it takes care of them better than any product ive ever used or seen used. He/she is quarantined anyways, for a few weeks, in a seperate room with a disinfectant bottle on the cage for after handeling. so im not too worried about any sickness that might pop up to infect my other animals. No RI, at least not in a far enough stage to produce bubbles and foam, but I have a mister with meds for that one.

Not familiar with Callington...you must be in the U.K.?

Triple antibiotic ointment without the painkiller is ok for a day or so, but long-term a product like Vetericyn is better for reptiles since it's a water-based gel and not a petroleum product that causes scale damage.
If the wound is long/deep it may need to be stitched to ensure it heals properly.
Since you purchased from a sketchy seller figure on a six month quarantine for her.

I think she is beautiful.
Glad she now has a better life ahead of her.
Best of luck!
