Woods safe for inside a Ball Python enclosure?

Does anyone know of any woods that are safe to use inside of a ball python enclosure? I am going to build a custom hide and am looking for some wood options that would be acceptable for a ball python to be in contact with and around. Any help is appreciated

Well, not cedar, for sure. But ANY kind of wood needs to be water-sealed with a pet-safe no-VOC product, so I'd imagine that even pine (etc) would be
safe when thoroughly sealed. Without sealing, you'll have stains & germs & rotting of the wood...very unhealthy in a hurry, especially with the humidity
that BPs need. I've not built any cages, but I've converted wood furniture into snake homes. I've heard of ppl using plywood for cages too, but remember
that plywood off-gases toxic stuff...again, seal that really well if you use it. Snakes are stuck inside 24/7 with little air-flow, so those details matter.

I did build a large hide for the BCI I used to have...that was sealed pine sides with a tile-board top, & on top of it I kept a rubber-backed no-slip carpet
mat...it gave her traction she loved & was easy to wash if needed...she loved that hide! She basked on top & used her 'cave' too- she liked the options.

That sounds awesome! I'd really like to make a nice little "playground" for her so she can explore and feel more secure with more places to hide! Thank you!
