I routinely share cute photos of my snakes on my facebook page. I have had two friends say they used to be afraid of snakes but they think they could learn to like *my* snakes. One of them came over for a game night and first asked to see one, and then she held Noodle my ratsnake. :-) My snakes are cute ambassadors.

Re: how to help a person who fears snakes overcome there fear

I also share pictures of my snake babies on my FB page. I’ve been surprised how many friends asked more about them. And I’ve had others admit they were very pretty...which they never expected to say about a snake. A couple of people are interested in seeing them, though not necessarily touching them. On the flip side of that, I have a couple of friends who are truly terrified of them. One will come over to the house as long as I don’t have any of the cages open. He’s even looked into the cages, though I can tell it gives him the willies. Another friend will never come to my house because of the snakes. He has a debilitating fear of snakes and can hardly stand the idea of them, much less be in a building where he knows they live.

I share that I have them as pets with pretty much anyone who knows me. Depending on their reaction or interest, I share more information about their care, personalities, habits, etc. All of my friends know that the cages are locked or securely latched, and that I will never bring any of the snakes out unless they specifically request it. They also know you have to go through the snake room to get to my bathroom. And most of my friends and coworkers know that my phone contains pictures of snakes and cars, which I will share with the least provocation.
