Admittedly sometimes it makes me feel bad, but I don't give in to their puppy dog eyes because slow growth is better.

Oh my gaaaad! They DO use those “puppy dog” eyes on you! I thought it was just my “nope rope” playing me like a sucker.

It's more typical when they're young...it's when they mature (& after they've trained you into complacency) that the "fun" begin.

So, what you're saying is they're setting us up for the inevitable sneak (snake) attack when they mature which will inevitably result in my untimely death? See?? I KNEW they were bad! Don't let those "puppy dog" eyes fool ya! There's an instinctive predator lying just beneath those "friendly" lil' scales we all love & adore so much, just WAITING for the right moment to strike!

I was suggesting "torture by frustration", not any literal predatory attack, lol...

On the other hand, many snake forums have gotten more quiet...could it be?...maybe you're right after all about those "untimely deaths"!? Bbwaahhahahahaha!
(Perhaps ball pythons refuse meals when they grow to adulthood in order to save room for their owners!? )
