Brutus, the Tegu
And here is what else we picked up at the herp show yesterday. My bf has wanted a tegu for a looong time.
He's an Argentinian Black and white. So far, he's friendly and very inqusitive. I can't wait till he gets big, and can chase the cats!

LOL! Supposedly Argentinians are pretty mellow and laid back if you socialize them properly. And don't hand feed them. Guess I'll find out, eh?

Yes, a well cared for argentine B&W/red/blue tegu can be the tamest lizard you can have! I read about people who have tegus who are even affectionate.. can't say that for many reptiles!

Thats exactly what I've heard, and read. They are pretty intelligent as well. I read one guys page about his tegu, and he said that it was trained to go outside to potty, and that it would crawl in the guys lap and nudge his hand like a dog when he wanted to be petted. He loved to have his head scratched.
I handle all my critters a lot, so it shouldn't be a problem socializing this one. I took him out with me today to the pet store. He was a bit feisty, but I'm sure will settle down with time.

Re: Brutus, the Tegu
Our Black and whites have never been too friendly, then again they came from bad cases.
Out of the two reds we've taken in both were puppy dogs, and they both came from really bad cases also. so who knows. Our red is used in education programs.
I should snap some shots sometime. Right now we have one bl/wht, and one red. Our red is fine. But the blk/wht will chase you out of his enclosure like a crazy nile on drugs..lol
Great shot of your new baby, glad he's working out for you. I never get them that small. I always miss the babies

Thanks Rusty. He's been pretty good so far. He's gotten to where he will nap with me. He snuggles right under my chin and passes out. LOL!
He seems to have a pretty good temperment so far. He lets everyone handle him with no problem, and he LOVES to explore. He's so curious. Way more so than the dragons. Runs around flicking that tongue at everything. He's a blast to watch.

Re: Brutus, the Tegu
I once saw someone handling a tegu and claimed it was a doll and never had bit anyone ever.
Then it went and bit the owner in the face, kinda grabbing a hold of the skin just below your ear onto your jaw...wouldn't let go either....
Big monitor lizards are unpredictable for sure....
