Re: What’s going on with her head??

So I checked the temp with a thermometer at the screen... it was 140 what should I do about that, as the bottom is at 90 degrees? And with a non screened lid cage, would I still use a heat lamp, or just heat pads?

If you were wanting to switch to a non-screen top enclosure (like a plastic tub setup) I would use a combo of heat mat on the warm end and a CHE (ceramic heat emitter) in a hanging lamp on a dimmer. Put the hanging lamp on a lamp stand and raise above the tub in the middle or over the warm end to raise ambient air temps. With that sort of setup, you have to be careful not to let the hot lamp touch the tub and also to secure the tub lid using bulldog/ binder clips or luggage straps. I have used a similar setup while quarantining and it works out well. If using a dimmer on the CHE lamp (which you should) you will need to manually adjust it with changing room temps to get the air temps you want in the tub. If you can hook it up to a proportional thermostat (like a herpstat) it will do the adjusting for you once you set it correctly.

Maybe not for ball pythons and certain species, but I disagree with such a "blanket statement" as I PREFER screen lids for all the snakes* I keep, & I have used
them (numerous ones) for many years without issues. Many snakes need good ventilation to remain healthy, and even ball pythons can be kept with a screen
top with some modifications, either for retaining humidity or for the head rubbing (which in a BP is mostly due to the cage being too small & not tall enough
anyway, as they just aren't that active). Let's try not to be "one-size-fits-all" here? (*not keeping BPs currently, only in the past)

I found them in the reptile section at petco, so I didn’t even think that they might be for fish, but thanks for letting me know that they’re different, so I’ll make sure to be observant next time I go shopping for hides(which’ll be soon).

Incidentally you can put a sheet of plastic over the top and seal the edges .... you'll have no problem maintaining humidity then. ..

Maybe even some black paper /card on back or sides to offer a bit more security..

We are under the Sub Forum “BP Husbandry”. I didn’t think I needed to specify the species. This thread is about a BP possibly rubbing it’s head. My Balls are up from 7/8pm until at least 5:30am climbing 5 out of 7 days, which is the opposite of your “Blanket Statement” saying they just aren’t that active. When there are beginners with questions I try and give them the easiest route to accomplish what the snake needs. Of course there are several ways to accomplish these things and you should give your input and experiences also, but please do not make my opinion into a debate unless you believed it to be unsafe of course otherwise I think thats counter productive.
