Night Drop....
Quick beardie question...
...Is the nighttime drop in a bearded dragon's enclosure necessary? or do they need the temperture fluctuation? I know that most people just turn off the heating elements at night, but I would really like to leave mine on to keep a more constant temperature in the 'closet'.

Re: Night Drop....
BD's dont need a night drop, however, do not leave thier lights on all the time, it is not good for them. Can you tell me about your set up? What are you using for a basking spot and what are you using for uva/uvb, what other heating sources are you using?

Re: Night Drop....
I am just getting stuff squared away for two beardies that I plan on getting from Sass. I have a modified large rubbermaid tub will be used to hold them for about 3-4 months and until I build a bigger enclosure. The setup currently consists of a 10.0 Zoomed Compact flourscent bulb for UVB, a 75w heat lamp, and a timer to turn off the lighting at night....and just the regular hides and branches and stuff. The setup keeps all the right temps and humidity right now. But The closet stays at around 80-82 when the lamp is on then drops to 75 when it is off, so I was thinking of switching to a ceramic heat emitter so that i can keep the closet temps more consistant.

Re: Night Drop....
Well, that temp is not going to hurt them since it drops to 75, but if you want to get the temp up, why not get a small space heater? Like the small ones made to be used in a bathroom.

Aaahhh...daddy already hard at work for his babies. A wonderful Dragon Slave you are gonna be!!
The 75 will be great for the babies while they are still little. When they get a bit bigger, night time tems can drop to 60 with no problems. I really don't think you are gonna need any kind of other heat for them while they are in their temporary home. But kudos to you for being such a concerned daddy.

Re: Night Drop....
I was more worried about the night temperature being too high....the closet w/ my snakes in it stays at 80 deg....I was not sure if they needed the cool night temps to regulate temps, sleep, etc. And my house will never get below 75....I hate the cold
