Finally getting a snake I have had my eye on for a bit, even when I first started to think about even owning snakes in general!

I found my perfect MBK and I could not be happier! I went and looked at some hatchlings locally and they were very cool but I wasn't very impressed with the care and set-up of the location they were at. On my way home on a whim I decided to swing past my local, trusted and well-kept store and they happened to get a possible breeding pair donated by a guy who either didn't want to work with them or didn't want to wait for the female to mature who is barely a yearling. The male, Rico, who I chose is a big beefy boy and just has an amazing personality.

I already comitted to getting my new black tail cribo, but I couldn't say no to this guy. I tried, but it didn't work. I went back last week with my 2.5 year old daughter. He was the first snake she ever touched and held the booty of and he was so sweet to her. That kinda sealed the deal for me, but I was traveling for work so I didn't pull the trigger. I said if he is still there once I get back I am gonna do it and he was, so I am nabbing him. I believe he is between 2-3. My local shop treats for internal and external parasites and disease and he has been a dream to handle the few times I paid him a visit...

Going to get him tonight and stoked!!!! Thanks to my bro Daksiki Dave for the amazing name suggestion and the set-up that was supposed to be for my mandarin but Rico is taking over.... for now!!!

I agree once she laid hands on him and loved it and they came nose to nose I kinda fell in love !

Great pickup Dubs! MBKs are BEAUTIFUL critters. I had a female that was as sweet as pie but she was my most ferocious eater. I hope yours is super fun for you too. Pics pics and more pics plesse.

Thanks zig! Yea I hear they are as fierce as they come during feeding time. I look forward to seeing that. He’s been eating small ft rats and bigger mice. Do you suggest one over the other?

If he eats rats and mice I'd offer both. My kings were very consistent eaters when it came to mice and chicks. They were hit or miss with rats. Thats a great thing about snakes that don't get too big. You don't have to worry about transitioning them to rats. Kings can do just fine on mice their entire lives but I think they bulk up more on rats.

Thank you for the advice. I was planning to try both. Between this guy and the black tail cribo I have coming I was thinking of ordering some chicks or something like that as well to give them a variety sine they seem to be living garbage disposals... literally

It's too late now, but you know I suggested the name Rico Suave as a joke, right? I figured it couldn't be any worse than Leslie Snipes , but I was still joking!

I think Katie's going to put me on name probation now too. Thanks bro! Good thing we aren't get any new reptiles any time soon!
