Anybody use eco earth or other substrate for big snakes
Just curious as to what all people use for the big snake bedding pics and comments appreciated😁

Re: Anybody use eco earth or other substrate for big snakes
Currently I’ve been using either coconut chips or plain old paper. Coco chips look nicer, but can make finding piss a little harder. Does absorb odor nicely though.
Paper is obviously not as great to look at but makes cleaning a breeze and is also very cheap. I’ve been considering cypress mulch if I can find big bags of it for cheap. this is ProCoco coconut husk chips from growershouse.com

Eco earth is the only substrate that makes sense imo. It holds humidity well, presents a low impaction risk, it's anti fungal, absorbs waste and smells, contains no sharp hazards, looks natural. Can't think of any cons.

I think the cons will become apparent in the cost of that bedding when that snake is 15’+ in an 8’ or larger cage and pisses two gallons at a time. Does look nice though

The prococo chips only come in a brick. Takes up less space to store and ship them.

Re: Anybody use eco earth or other substrate for big snakes
The better way of explaining it I think is that it completely depends on your caging. In an Animal Plastics cage, I hold 60% humidity with just a water bowl using kraft paper substrate. For me, Eco Earth or cypress would give me WAY too much humidity for my specific cage.
So with an Animal Plastics, a radiant heat panel, and a dog dish sized water bowl...Id say paper, aspen, or coconut husk (not sprayed or wet).
