    Anubis concern

Husband came home and said something’s off about Anubis....she looked “off” and he described it and it sounded like she didn’t hinge her jaw back correctly....then I saw what it looked like for myself and it looks to be just that...I fed her Tuesday and haven’t seen her since tonight....I’m really not overly worried just wanna get some opinions....it caught his attention cause he caught her off guard when he turned the light to the room so she struck the glass.

    Anubis concern

She could have her lip caught on a tooth it’s easily done ,happened to
Me and a few others on here ,just lift her lip gently with a cotton bud (double ended type) sorry not sure what you call them in the USA and unhook it, if it’s that it will easily pop off,

    Re: Anubis concern

Behira has a tendency to strike the acrylic doors to her tank when hungry (hence putting a drape up).

She bent a few teeth, but never got one caught on her lip.

I agree with Richardhind1972; probably just caught on her lip. See if you can gently unhook it.

If the tooth is bent, it will likely fall out on it's own soon or at next feeding. That's what happened with Behira's bent teeth.

Also, if you want advice on preventing the striking at the front of the tank, just ask. I can link you to Behira's thread. There was a whole decision on that and I ultimately put up a drape, which solved 95% of it. Occasionally, she still nails the doors when I am about to feed, but even there, I have found a few tricks.

    Good luck.

I think cotton bud = Q-Tip in the USA.

Just googled cotton bud, and yes, here in the USA it is a Q-Tip, or Cotton Swab.

Not quite sure about the post but if the boa just struck the glass door and then looked like that, i wouldnt worry too much. Louie had done that a few times. They usually reset it within a day. Now if her lip has been like that for 2 days, then you need to use the cardboard middle of a Q-Tip and to pop open her mouth and look inside. You just break off the cotton parts and use the stick part perpendicular to her mouth. You dont want to stab it into her mouth, you just roll the stick to open and slide it back to the hinge part of the mouth to hold it open, then look inside. If it is a caught tooth, then you can just lift the lip up over the tooth with another Q-Tip.

And I've had to do this with Caesar my 8 foot retic on his upper lip and let me tell you, it is NOT fun when an 8 foot retic wraps around your waist and leg and squeezes. I got my finger caught on a few of his teeth while doing this. The trick i did was not use the cotton part, i just broke the cotton end off and used the stick to gently slide between his lip and jaw, under the where the lip was caught on the tooth and then just pull the stick down which unhooked his tooth. He had a nice little blood mark on his lip from where the tooth pierced it but it was healed up in a couple days. It healed faster than it took Caesar to not be pissed at me lol. He didnt want anything to do with me for about 4 days and would push my hand away and not come out of his hide to greet me when i opened a door lol.

I keep wooden skewers (food skewers) on hand for grilling, but I also find they come in handy for getting snake mouths open. They're longer than cotton swabs, plus no worry about the cotton itself.

    Just throwing this out there.

But anyway, Aerries, I haven't had that issue (yet) so can't really offer advice, but good luck. Please keep us posted.

What a challenge! I hope I never have to do that with Rainbow. I don't think would be fun now. When she is full grown? Would need lots of help then! Would be a vet visit and most of his staff at that point to get it done. The good thing is she gets over things much quicker than Caesar does it seams.

    Anubis concern

My grumpy img did this by striking the glass ,her tooth had dislodged and was sticking thru her bottom lip, my son held her while I took the tweezers and gently pulled , cane out within seconds.I had had waited a couple of days to see if it would sort it’s self but didn’t , I didn’t want it to become infected , I thought she would of gone mental at me but I felt like she was relieved and wasn’t grumpy at all, like the old fable with lion and the thorn
