Re: Star Gazing
Has anyone ever seen this just after they swallow there meal? I noticed this with mine the last time i fed him, after he swallowed it he looked up as if he was star gazzing it only lasted not even ten sec's. Just wondering if i should be concerned?

Re: Star Gazing
most ball pythons(most snakes too) generally rise their head up while eating a meal...it helps them get it down. This is NOT stargazing. Stargazing is very obvious. Basically the snake will stare up in the air for hours at a time when it is 'stargazing'.

Re: Star Gazing
i remember talking about how your last BP died with you...did you wash everything that is being reused with this one really throughly?
as far as stargazing, i would not worry too much right now. in fact i just walked upstairs to check on my snakes and my female was staring straight up. snakes will do this sometimes, they could be looking at something you dont know is there, or the heat lamp if you have one. one good way to figure out if it has a neurogical problem would be to take the snake, and flip it on its back. it should right itself immediatly.

Re: Star Gazing
Look it...if you know the term star gazing then you must know what it is...if not then the search function or google will educate you somewhat. You state "cuz my bp is fine...I think", well it's not fine if it is in fact star gazing! I'm a newb too but that I know!
Is this your "replacement" snake you purchased right after the other one died of unknown causes? Please tell me you sterilized everything thoroughly before introducing this new snake into that environment.

Re: Star Gazing
The article I just read today about IBD says that there should be a six months wait even with a sterilazion. They are not sure if the virus is airborne. I am an alarmist.

Re: Star Gazing
J-Ro, all our balls stretch upwards as they swallow the hips and tail of their prey last. I've always assumed this was quite normal behaviour and just their way of allowing gravity to help them.

Re: Star Gazing
You have to understand. People here truely want what is best for all snakes. When you posted you lost your first snake we were a little surprised you had another the same day. It didn't seem you ever got your temps correct and basic husbandry under control. The fact that your snake is possibly exhibiting the same symptoms as your previous one, would make me very concerned. Please watch your snake closely and if it starts to go the same way as your first, have it humanely euthanized.
