Subtrate changing cage temps drastically

Been awhile since I have posted here .. final put dreki in her bigger enclosure after fighting to get temperature set...
Cage temp before I added subtrate was 89/90 hot side and 76/75 cool side....
Added subtrate in the morning an put dreki in late afternoon I rechecked everything an temps had dropped to 84/83 hot side and 72/73 cool side... Thermostat was working an probe placement hadn't moved...
Bedding used is forest floor an reptibark also added a Manzanita log which was rather wet since I had it soaking in the bathtub for several hours prior to putting it into cage.....

What are you heating it with? Someone correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't all the evaporation from the substrate and log cause the temps to drop? I'd give it a little time for everything to stabilize

What happens when you put cold water in a warm cup? Same thing with cold substrate in a warm enclosure. The larger the enclosure. the longer it takes to reach equilibrium when adding things. Check again in 24 hours and see if temps are returning to normal. You won't get the same surface temps on top of substrate as you would at the surface of a bare enclosure from under tank heating but you should start to see overhead heating areas return to normal after a day or two.

Using a heat panel I kind of figured that the substrate temperature would be different than the bare floor temperature but I didn't think it to be that drastic the log was fairly wet this is a 4 foot enclosure I'll give it 24 hours and recheck
