Nighttime Heat Bulb Smell?
I have been trying out nighttime bulbs for my ball python but they all leave a burning smell.
I have two 100w lamps. I’ve used numerous daytime/basking bulbs from all different kinds of brands and never had this problem before, yet every nighttime bulb I try is causing problems.
Every bulb I’ve used is between 60w-100w, so that’s not the problem. I’ve tried cleaning them in case it’s just dust burning off. I’ve tried matching up the brand of the bulb with the brand of the lamps (one is zoomed, the other is all living things) but still to no avail. I’ve tried using numerous other bulbs that aren’t those brands as well. The problem is not electrical either, in terms of my lamps, power strip or outlet.
Its just bothersome that I have this problem with every single nighttime bulb, and nighttime bulbs only. Is this typical? I want to exhaust all my options before deciding on a different heat source besides my heating mat.

Re: Nighttime Heat Bulb Smell?
You don't need a daytime or nighttime bulb for a BP, the ambient light in your room is sufficient for a day and night cycle. So go with a CHE. And if your house is in at least the upper 70s that UTH is all the heat you'll need, but if your house is cooler you'll need supplemental heating.

I’ve used the Zoo Med red light 40 watt bulbs for ever, I’ve never noticed a smell.

Re: Nighttime Heat Bulb Smell?
I say switch to a CHE. None of the Lights are good IMO. Also it's probably not the Bulb you're smelling so what's the enclosure made out of that is heating up?

I've been running the dark purple night lights for years, never noticed a smell once.
