I recently started a colony of fancy mice for feeders and tohave fun with the breeding to see what I can make. They aren’t show mice andhave unknown and probably very muddy genetics. The colony is 1.3. The 3 doeswere purchased together and the buck was from a separate store. I’m 2 littersin so far and haven’t gotten many “fancy” mice. Most of them have been blackself’s, and only 1/3 of each litter looks like the does. Should I remove mybuck, hold back some of the fancier babies and rebreed them back into ones withsimilar genetics? Or are the does possibly the carrier of these black genes?

Buck: black and white pied

Doe #1: avy brindle – litter was 1/3 black, 1/3 white withred eyes, and 1/3 brindle.

Doe #2: long hair dove with red eyes – 2/3 of the litter wasall black, 1/3 is dove.

Doe #3: is a satin – due in the next few days.

Other than getting a bunch of plain mice the colony has donegreat with helping each other. The snakes don’t really care what color theirfood is.
