    Question BP not pooping

    Hi All,
We’ve had our baby BP for about 2 weeks now. She’s eating and drinking fine and is pretty active at night. Her temp gradient is exactly where it should be, although it took us a few tries with different methods to get her humidity up (we live in high desert). We are new to this, and want to know if we should be concerned. She’s scheduled to eat again on Tuesday.

I don't think you have to worry just yet. My ball python poops like once a month and I haven't had any problems with him. It's different for every bp. Some poop more often than others.
If you can see that the area around the tail is really big/swollen, then you could try to put the snake in lukewarm water for a while (make sure to put a towel or something in so there as well snake doesn't go underwater). It might relieve itself in the bath but I would wait for some more time before doing that.

Maybe you could tell us about the husbandry. What is the humidity and what are the temperatures? What does the snake weigh and what does it eat? Does your ball python pee (have you found urates)?
If you told us that, maybe people can give you further advice.

Defecation is based on what gets in, they can go 4 to 6 weeks or more without defecating depending on their age that how efficient they are they will go when needed , however there are cases where they do not defecate because they do not get fed adequately and therefore use most of the prey for growth so just to make sure how big is your BP and what prey size are you feeding ad how often.

    Thanks everyone!
Her temp gradient is 92 on the warm end and 82 on the cool end. We managed to get her humor yup to 60%, which is a great feat in this high desert climate!

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Most baby ball pythons don't poop much, because the food is being used for growing, there really is nothing left over. Granted, if you are feeding a too small prey item, you will see no poop.

Just curious, how much does the snake weigh and what size prey are you feeding?

    Re: BP not pooping

We have not weighed her yet, and we’ve been feeding her mice about the same size as the widest part of her body. She also has not yet passed any urates. Other than this concern, she seems like a healthy and happy little snake.
