Exclamation Geno's lost interest in feedings! Lost 28g!

Ahh! So, Geno, my male 1 1/2-year-old bp, has just kinda lost interest in his mice! He was eating like a monster 3 weeks ago, then 2 weeks ago he didn't eat, so I waited until the next week rolled around. It was the next Thursday (he eats on Thursday), and I offered his normal f/t large mouse, (Real quick, Geno's 488g so I know he should be on jumbo mice/weaned rats. I just have 2 more large mice so I'm finishing them off) and he thought about it for a while but lost interest. I left it in his tub for about 45mins, but still nothing. I tried 3 days later, which is today and thawed his mouse. I even hit it with a hairdryer for a good 1-2 minutes. Still nothing! I weighed him real quick because I thought he might be fasting, but he's lost 28g at 460g now I feed him in a tub because he has aspen bedding, and the tub is covered with a blanket so he can't see out/his reflection. Please help!

A little aspen won't hurt him, my bp takes in coconut fiber sometimes and she's been fine. If it bothers you that much you could always put down a paper plate or paper towel.

Thank you! I got worried once when he got eco-earth in his mouth, I started feeding in a tub. Then I got the aspen, and I just kept feeding in the tub lol. Would it make a difference to feed in his tank? Thanks

I just checked and he got it! Butt first, and barely in his mouth, I hope I didn't spook him and make him spit it out when I opened the lid! Fingers crossed!!

I was always told that feeding in the tank is bad because they think every time you open the tank, it's feeding time and you're more likely to get bit yadda yadda but from my personal experience, I have never been struck at other than defensive strikes from startling them. Also, from personal experience once again, none of the snakes i have ever owned liked to feed in anything other than home sweet home. They would feed eventually but were always hesitant and when I drop one in the enclosure, they'd almost always go right for it. I think it has alot to do with comfort and feeling safe with a little bit of being territorial and not liking anything scurrying around and crapping all over their stuff

Huh, I think I'll try feeding in his tank then next time. But like I said, 3 weeks ago (still in the tub, probably the 4th month of feeding in tub) he ate like a champ! It's like something just changed that 2 weeks ago And, yeah, the "feeding in the tank will make them more aggressive" stuff, is just downright stupid We ate in enclosure, he was just as sweet as always

Re: Geno's lost interest in feedings! Lost 28g!

Glad to see he ate it. An apology isn't necessary. When you care about something, it's just human nature to worry. When I was a teenager with my first bp, the guy at the pet store I got it from stressed the "never feed in the enclosure" crap and had me scared to do it. I used to put a towel down in my bathtub and sit and wait for what seemed like an eternity. It got old so I weighed my options and decided that I'd rather get struck at occasionally than sit on my toilet until my legs went numb. I wish I coulda had internet access. It woulda made everything so much easier
