Hello! I am wondering about temperatures for a 10g tank. I have an UTH and a 50watt red heating bulb I turn on when the temperature in my house is low. The humidity has been fine but I just keep reading conflicting things about UTH and lamps. Any advice?

What are your temps reading? I am confused as to what you are asking.

Regardless of what you are using to heat, it needs to be on an accurate thermostat. This is critical.

I apologize, after reading what I wrote, that did sound confusing! I am using an UTH at all times. I am wondering about the overhead heat lamp. I’ve read that it will become too hot and I’ve also been told that you should add the heat lamp at night time. I recently got the snake and am waiting for a more accurate thermometer to come in the mail, as well as a thermostat for the heating pad. I do understand the thermostat for the UTH is critical, but for the time being I was told it is fine since the substrate I am using is thick. What are the temperatures supposed to be reading on the tstat for the UTH?

Try and get it a little warmer. 75F is about as low as it can safely go, see if you can get it up more to 78-79F. UTH and lamps can work together, that's what I'm using to keep my boy's ambients up ATM; though I'm using a CHE since they CAN see red light and some snakes WILL react badly to it if they have bad nerves or other stressors.

Your snake can and will burrow. The hottest surface they can touch shouldn't e more than 95 degrees MAX.
Even if you are using one of the smallest UTH mats you are probably already well over 115 degrees.......

I've always had overhead lighting for my bp & recently I'm coming across mixed opinions about it. (e.g. that overhead lighting is bad for them & causes stress) Would love to hear some thoughts on this & what you think is the best tank setup in keeping your bps happy.

I use a Che (ceramic heat emitter) so no light, just heat.

The temperature on the thermostat is going to be a bit different than what your snake will be feeling. That's why the infrared thermometer is so handy, so you can tell what temp your snake is actually feeling and adjust the stat accordingly.
