    Newspaper under substrate?

I have been putting newspaper under the substrate as a buffer above the glass. Will this stop
to much of the heat coming up from the mat? The probe for thermometer sits on top of the newspaper under the substrate. Should I just get rid of the newspaper and put the prob right on the glass under the substrate?
