Buying ball pythons question
Curious since I haven't bought a reptile in a while, when buying a ball python from breeders online, is there tax involved to the purchased price when buying reptiles whether its from a business or small time hobbyist? If there is how do you handle it if someone doesn't charge tax on the reptile?

I guess this would depend on the state where the reptile is being sold. Some forms of payment also have a tax. For example: PayPal takes a certain amount out from the seller. I put a down payment of $75 on a snake and the breeder only got $61.

Re: Buying ball pythons question
To the original question most breeders have taxes embedded in their price, now if you want to charge taxes or if a breeder charge taxes it will apply if the seller and the buyer are in the same state, but again most elect to embed it in the price to simplify the transaction and have price that remain competitive with other buyers. Now when comes to file taxes all the breeder has to do is calculate the amount of tax he owes to the IRS.

Not quite the seller would have received $72.52 , paypal's fee are 2.9% + $0.30

So if a person is buying out of state they don't pay tax or the breeder is already incorporating the tax in the price?

It's really up to the seller and has no effect on you as the buyer. Typically as stated the taxes are included in the over all price, that is IF the seller is paying taxes at all. It's not really anything you need to worry about.

In theory buyers are supposed to pay "Use Tax" on anything purchased at retail that didn't have sales tax assessed on it. In reality only businesses tend to pay it because they get audited regularly - mine was for three years straight.
