All but one hatchling took f/t rat fuzzies on second feeding, whew!

Got all the hatchlings (but one) from the first clutch on f/t rat fuzzies, but boy it wasn't easy, LOL. Their first meal was live mouse hoppers, since they refused f/t at their first feeding.

The only one who took it almost right away is the Killer Bee. But then, that one is bold and curious (not defensive or aggressive, though)

For all the others it took a lot of patience. I kept having to warm the fuzzies back up and then try one snake and if there was no go, another snake and back and forth while their excitement grew. At times I had to hold it up to them for minutes while they contemplated and sniffed it, LOL. My arm grew numb.
Finally the last f/t rat fuzz is gone, whew.

One of those hatchlings has yet to take its first meal, so he/she has a live hopper running around in the tub.

The second clutch is one week past their first shed and they will all get a live hopper in their tub tonight. Not sure they will take it yet, seems it takes a couple of weeks after shed for them to get really hungry? All my hatchlings were really good sizes (69 to 76 gr) and they all absorbed their entire yolk.

We managed to get our clutch of 4 all on f/t for the first feed! We had 2 that took 2 weeks, 1 took 2 and a half weeks, and a hold out at 3 weeks. Now they are just finishing up second sheds and going up for sale soon

That is awesome !! Did you try mice or rats?

Did they take 2 weeks after their first shed ? Or after hatching ? I'm wondering if I'm trying to early with the second clutch, its only been over a week since they shed...

Well, I'm keeping an eye on things and if I see no interest in a few hours I will remove the hoppers.

The only REALLY stubborn one is the Lemonblast from the first cluch. He/she refuses everything for now. Will try tonight, next week, and then it will be time to weigh and decide if I need to try to assist feed this one. I rather not, but I don't want to wait to long, either.

After first shed. We didn't even offer before first shed so they could digest yolk just mice. Now they eat weekly no problem.

Same here, I wouldn't even attempt before the first shed, because they were quite full from absorbing all the yolk.

I figured a week after the shed would be fine to try, but they don't seem to be all into it yet, must not be hungry just yet. I will leave the hoppers in the tubs overnight, but any not eaten will be removed and then I won't try again until next week. The hoppers have food and water in the tub, so they don't harass the snakes.

I think what is so difficult is switching not only to frozen thawed, but to "rats". They really do seem to prefer mice. I want to switch to rats asap, because that is all I feed eventually. I can't even imagine having to feed mice to an adult BP, it would take quite a few to fill up my adults, LOL!!

On a good note, the one hatchling that hadn't eaten yet (from first clutch) finally did! yay!!

I have three clutches, 18 total hatchlings, one holdout still on live while the rest are on f/t rat pups. Fortunately I have someone interested in buying it already and he doesn't mind feeding live since he raises his own feeders.

3 out of 5 took their hoppers. Not bad, considering its only a week since first shed

All babies (clutch 1 and 2) look fat and happy, the ones that ate the rat fuzzies look particularly full, LOL. The hoppers just seem to disappear...
