radiant heat panels

How safe are they and probe placement?
Researching for the possibility of getting a 4x2x2 cage for a dwarf retic.
Was looking at boaphile cages which can be installed at cost..
Any suggestions????

They are fine.

It depends on your set up really. What i generally say is if your room gets under 76F, then you need a RHP. If it is 77F+, then heat tape will work fine. With that said, i run flexwatt on 8 cages. 3 6x3 and 5 4x2 and they all work fine. I do keep my basement at 77-80F though so my set up is 77-80f ambient and 88F hot spot via flexwatt.

LOVE my Pro Products RHPs (http://pro-products.com/pro-heat/) . I have 4 of them and 2 more in the near future all controlled by Herpstats.

They are the only RHP that are UL certified, and if I'm not mistaken none of the heat tapes are but someone that uses them can speak to those.

I keep my house around 65 during the summer and winter 65 is the highest my house MIGHT see...I like it cold.

As far as your probe placement - I just put mine on the "cool" side and set the stat to my ambient temp and it works for me.

It'll be fine, mine drops to 72*F in winter and I use RHP's in many enclosures.

Some people set the probe on the cool side with the t-stat set to 80*F and then see where the hot spot ends up. Mine are set on the warm side at 85*F with the probe/wire inserted through the back wall so the probe hangs about halfway down the back. That gives a hot spot around 90 and the cool side just is what it is, usually 75-78*F.

In what size cages do you have yours set up like that? I've got my new 6'x2.5'x1.5' set up with the probe cool side at 80* and the floor under the panel gets around 85*ish, maybe close to 90* when the panel is running at higher power but it seems to cycle fairly quickly. May try setting the probe warm side under the shelf at 85* or I have holes drilled for probes above the shelf, set them at 87* maybe?
