So he's getting darker but his top is getting brighter yellow? Wow I want to see him in 2 years!!
Sauzo I got a question, the T8 I got has the radiant heat panel on the roof right above where the heat tape suppose to go, would that get too hot? Should I put the heat tape on the other end? Thanks

Why are you putting heat tape under the RHP? There is no need to use both. If your room is cold and the ambient in the cage is cold, then just run the RHP and set the probe on the cool side and set the cool side temp to 78F on the t-stat. In a cooler room, a RHP will provide a warm spot as well as warmer ambient since it will come on and stay on longer and you can throw the warm hide under the RHP so it holds more heat too. Where an RHP kind of fails in in warmer rooms where if you set the cool temp to be based on the RHP, it wont come very much and wont create a warm spot. And if you set itbased on the hot side, it will heat up the cool side too much and you wont have a good temp gradient.
But to answer your question, i would run them both on the same side and just use one or the other, but not both.

^ I think I got it! I thought the RHP was only to keep ambient temp, but Freddy would need a heat tape for belly heat. But you're saying the RHP can do both jobs... Correct? The room Freddy is in is always 80F, but I think the RHP probably cost less (electric bill). In that case I will not use the heater in the room anymore and just use the RHP...but not the heat tape. How that sounds?

Well if the room stays 80F all the time, the RHP wont really create a hot spot or even turn on much. I had that issue which is why i quit using RHPs. I too keep my snake room around 77-79F and with the RHP set to 78F on the cool side, the RHP almost never came on. With it set to 88F on the hot side, it would come on a lot but all that heat would radiate to the cool side and in a 4x2 cage, it would build up to around 83F on the cool side. My boas would push and try and get out all the time.
If you keep the room 80F, i would say just use the flexwatt and you will be fine. And actually, the flexwatt would probably use less heat as 2 feet would be 40 watts if you are using the 11 inch stuff...i think. The RHP would be like 60 or 80 watt. But its kind of wash, both would be very low on power.
And snakes dont 'need' belly heat. I prefer to give it to them though and it's arguable as some believe they should have it and some believe they dont need it. In the wild, i would imagine they kind of bask in tree branches and also on warm objects like rocks and stuff at sunset.

Now he is. He was really shy when i got him and it took him 2-3 months to calm down and not be so shy. Definitely different than my suriname or BCIs who were outgoing as babies and werent really shy at all. And all my snakes go bonkers during feeding time. It's actually my least favorite time as i have to watch out and use cage doors as shields haha. Caesar, Vicky and Rosey go crazy and being 6+ feet, they hit like freight trains. The little ones arent as bad as they are only about 2-3 feet so i can manage them a lot easier haha.
But yeah, Louie is pretty laid back now.

Lol no problem. I can answer the question because i had the same issues years ago hahaha. Thats why i just switched everyone to flexwatt when i switched everyone over to AP cages.
