Meltzer/Lincoln line Peruvian Longtail BCL progression thread

Ok so i got little Louie. Yes i named him Louie. He was pretty scared and took a shot at me but otherwise seems to be adjusting. He's exploring his new digs now lol. Sorry about the bad pics. Was trying not to disturb him too much. Love his head markings.

Couple more pics of him as he seems pretty happy and exploring every inch of the cage but really seems to love the litter dam....what is it with boas and the AP cage litter dams lol. At least he hasn't pooped in the track yet like Gina did when I got her lol. And I love this guys brown top with silver sides and again, the awesome head markings. Cant wait to see his adult colors in a year or 2. And yes, that is an empty T10 below him *gasp* but that cage is reserved for either a Gila or anoter Pokigron Suriname male from Chris Wolf in a few months Gina might have a boyfriend haha.

Nice little guy! I'm glad he is settling in for you. I feel you on the litter dam issues... I've got a hypo that always pushes his nose between the dam and the glass... he has gotten it stuck and had to pull pretty hard to get it out a few times. I'm guessing he is not the smartest boa lol as my others do not do that.

Haha, none of my boas have gotten close to getting stuck. They dont really push into it, just kind of look down in there. They mostly love to try and sit on top of it and balance on it with their bodies haha. My BP though has gotten her head wedged in there and had to pull it out with some force. Looked like a cork popping off a champagne bottle lol. My pythons seem to push with a lot more authority where as the boas just peek in there and move on.

And thanks. The breeder asked that i let her know when the snake arrived and to make sure everything looked good. I told her he kind of took a half hearted jab at me kind of and she was surprised. Said he must have been pretty stressed which I dont find surprising as some of the boxes I've received from FedEx were pretty trashed on. Not sure what they do to some of those boxes but my god....but luckily, he doesnt seem too scarred as he has been on a nonstop mission to check everything out with pitstops at the litter dam to perch on it for a few lol.

I worked at UPS for a couple years and how live animals can be shipped through UPS/Fedex has always blown my mind. Considering how I’ve seen packages handled, it’s amazing anything arrives alive.

Assuming it’s being shipped through overnight/2 day/air trailers, your animal will be loaded into anywhere between 1 & 3 trailers and be sent down just as many conveyor belts to be loaded into the next vehicle. Loading the animal from the trailer into the package car to be delivered to your house generally isn’t a problem. That loading is done fairly gently. The problems come when going from trailer to trailer. Those trailers are packed so fast at such a dense volume that loaders do anything to keep up and very rarely stop to check what they are truly loading. ESPECIALLY during this time of year which is peak season.

The worst part is “throw walls” where you build up a wall and then throw smaller packages over top to just be stacked on in no certain order or weight. The good news is that 1/2 day and air trailers typically don’t fill up completely or at the speed the others do so throw walls usually won’t come into play.

Hopefully things are different over at FedEx but if it’s anything like UPS, I can definitely see why these snakes are coming out stressed to the max.

Kind of how I imagined it lol. And I hate UPS. They are slow as slugs in my area. FedEx is so much better.

Well Louie had his first meal tonight. Was feeding day for Gina so i figured I'd pick up another hopper and see if Louie would eat. He was pretty gung ho about it and even though after he ate, he was scared of me, he sure wasnt scared of dinner haha.

And Gina is a bold girl and seemed to know it was dinner time and came out the cage and hung a little out the door waiting for her mouse. She is stupidly fast at grabbing food lol. She shot out like a bullet to grab her mouse off the tongs haha.
