Should I use a UTH Only?
Hey, I was wondering since I have a UTH (belly heat) and a heat lamp (used for the ambient temps) would my BP be fine if I just used the UTH. I hear from all these internet sources and youtube videos about how you need ambient temps with a temperature gradient along with the UTH for the BP's digestion. My room stays about 77-80 (not ideal temps at all for a BP) but I read that a lot of people only use UTH's. Would this be a good idea, or am I just getting the wrong impresstion and could put my noodle at risk of getting sick from taking the heat lamp away?

Personally I don't like heat lamps because they dry out the enclosure too fast.
Now for the more important question - is your UTH regulated by a thermostat so it can't overheat and burn your snake?

That it is sir, 90-92 is the hotest it gets.

Your ambient temps are ok with a good regulated hot spot without a lamp. Ambient at 80 would be better.

That's the thing though, it won't be a constant 80 all the time.

I would ditch the lamp and make a cover for the enclosure. Low temp of 77-80*F is fine as long as the UTH provides a hot spot of 90-92*F. Putting a hide over the UTH will ensure the snake stays plenty warm.
If your room temp were in the low 70's I would add a second UTH set to 80-82*F rather than using a heat lamp.

I'll give it a try for sure, I might just pick up a second UTH to be safe.
